Over 17 years of experience teaching, tutoring, and helping students succeed!
Despite adamant objections from his friends and classmates, Chris took off to Costa Rica for the summer to study for the California Bar Exam (rebuffing the traditional and stressful bar prep classes most others take). After having a wonderful summer, while also studying and passing the bar exam, Chris once again went against the grain and decided to pursue his passion for teaching.
Over the last 14 years, Chris has challenged students to think outside of the box. While the primary focus is on achieving the student’s goal score, Chris, throughout all his lessons, emphasizes critical thinking. He teaches his students how to attack the different parts of the test, how to plan their strategy and timing for each section, how to look for and recognize patterns, and how to apply what the student has practiced to unfamiliar but similar problems. Chris has tutored students through all stages of the test preparation process – whether just starting or having hit a roadblock after studying with other tutors or on their own – helping them achieve their goal scores.
Chris has scored in the 99th percentile on the GMAT and LSAT. He has passed the CA Bar and all four parts of the CA CPA exam. He has taught the SAT, ACT, GMAT, and GRE and developed SAT curriculum for the University of California San Diego. He has a B.S in finance and a JD from the University of California Law San Francisco. Chris loves teaching so much he volunteers his time providing SAT instruction at high schools in underserved communities around San Diego. He has also successfully coached various levels of baseball from little league to high school varsity. When not working, you’ll find him at a dog beach or dog park with his two wonderful Westies.
Amanda's most interesting teaching assignment came in 2002 when she was studying abroad in Italy and one of her professors approached her about taking part in his organization, Una Via. Soon after accepting Amanda was working in one of Italy's prisons, teaching English to a group of detainees from around the globe. She recalls them as her most obedient students to date.
Amanda graduated Magna Cum Laude from UCLA before tackling the LSAT. After scoring in the 99th percentile on the LSAT, Amanda attended Georgetown University Law Center where she worked with the admissions office as a student ambassador. While in law school, Amanda taught a year-long class on law to high school students. She whipped her students into winning the ultra-competitive city-wide mock trial competition. This experience honed Amanda's ability to make esoteric concepts clear. After teaching teenagers the basis for proper hearsay objections, teaching math and logic is a walk in the park.
Before striking out on her own, Amanda taught classes and tutored for a variety of LSAT test preparation companies including Kaplan, TestMasters, and BluePrint. She also spent several years teaching SAT and LSAT classes for UCSD Extension. In 2018, Chris and Amanda partnered with UCSD to create curriculum for an SAT course and to train instructors to teach that course.
Amanda has over 17 years of experience teaching and tutoring, including over 14 years teaching LSAT prep. She has taken what she learned while teaching for the major companies and combined her own experience with time-honored-LSAT-truths in order to present students with the clearest LSAT instruction possible. In addition, Amanda brings her professional skills to the table, allowing her to create the most effective and efficient study plans, tailored precisely to the needs of her individual students. She also knows how to strategize with her students to keep them motivated and learning. These efforts have paid off for her students, gaining them admission to some of the top universities such as Stanford, NYU and Berkeley. Aside from the LSAT, her other areas of expertise are the SAT, English, writing, and admissions counseling.
